Laptop Deals

Laptops are steadily becoming the preferred choice by consumers when shopping for a personal computer.

Portability is the main advantage of having a laptop. The ability to use your computer any time and anywhere instead of being bound to your home or office is a great advantage.

Things to consider when buying a laptop:

  1. How heavy is the laptop? The importance of the weight is really related to how often you expect to be using your laptop whilst out and about.

  2. How large is the viewing screen? A bigger screen provides a better viewing experience. Keep in mind that the size of the screen is directly related to the weight of the laptop.

  3. What does the laptop cost? Regrettably, most of us have a budget and it is best to keep this in mind when making a purchase.

  4. Consider the processing power of the laptop. What are you planning to use your laptop for? This will help to determine your processor requirements.

  5. How much RAM does the laptop have? The more the better. Buying extra RAM later can be expensive, therefore choose a unit with sufficient RAM already installed.

  6. What are the storage specifications of the laptop? Will you be saving movies, photos and other large items on the hard drive? Keep in mind that an external drive can always be used for extra storage.

  7. What is the battery life of the laptop?

  8. Does the laptop come with installed software such as Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office?

  9. What features are important to you? Consider availability of CD / DVD Reader / Writer, inbuilt webcam, quality of the graphics card for gaming, a full keyboard, carry bag / mouse and the number of USB ports.

  10. What warranty is provided with the laptop? Can this be extended? Is this an international warranty?

Also speak to friends and family that have recently made a laptop purchase and take advantage of the research that they have already done. Find out if they are happy with their purchase and ask why this is the case. This may give you pointers on what to look out for as a 'must have' and conversely what should be avoided.

We hope the above checklist will help with your selection of the right laptop for you.
